April 7
We will be stocking trout in the Youth Only fishing area along Comfort Road on April 7.  This day is the
mentored youth fishing day for our area.  We will be leaving the Long Center at 7:30 AM to travel to
Fiddlers Run Cooperative Trout Hatchery to pick up the trout.  We will be returning to the Comfort Rd. area
around 9:00 AM to stock the trout. Volunteers are needed to haul and help stock the trout.  
April 14
Opening day of trout fishing on Little Shamokin Creek.  The public is invited to park and fish at our property
located at 182 Houser Road.
At the request of the landowners Sonny Comfort,  Jeff Pontius, Ric Starr, and others, the PA Fish
and Boat Commission has established a "SPECIAL REGULATIONS, CHILDREN ONLY" fishing area
on Little Shamokin Creek. This regulation makes the area available to fishing exclusively for
children 12 years of age and younger, and will be in effect April 7 thru May 31, 2018.  April 7 is the
mentored youth fishing day on the stream, fishing is allowed for ages 12 or younger 8:00 am TILL
7:00 pm ONLY.    There is a 2 trout maximum limit for all youth.   Per PAF&BC regulations, adults
are not allowed to fish or kill any trout in this area on this mentored youth or any other day prior
to June 1, 2018. BEGINNING IN 2018, BOTH THE YOUTH AND THE MENTOR MUST POSSESS A VALID
FISHING LICENSE OR A VOLUNTARY YOUTH FISHING LICENSE ON THE MENTORED YOUTH DAY.
IN ADDITION, THE ADULT MUST POSSESS A VALID TROUT PERMIT.

No fishing is allowed from April 7 at 7:00 PM until April 14 at 8:00 AM which is the opening day for
youth trout fishing on these waters.  APRIL 14 TO MAY 31 AN ADULT DOES NOT NEED A VALID
LICENSE TO ASSIST THE CHILD AS OUTLINED BELOW. THE DAILY LIMIT FOR YOUTH IN THIS
PERIOD  IS 5 TROUT.  After May 31, 2018, this area will be open to fishing for all ages.

The regulation stipulates that any adult who assists a child (12 years of age and under) by casting
or retrieving a fishing line or fishing rod is NOT required to possess a valid fishing license
provided that the child remains within arms’ reach of the assisting adult and is actively involved
in the fishing activity. An adult may assist a child by baiting hooks, removing fish from the line,
netting fish, and preparing the fishing rod for use.  Adults MAY NOT "set the hook" for a child.

The area included is THE TRANSMISSION LINE CROSSING UPSTREAM OF THE INTERSECTION OF
COMFORT RD(T-538)  AND MILLER RD (T-479): Lat: 40.824553, Long: -76.751857, downstream to the
BRIDGE ON COMFORT RD.: Lat: 40.829653, Long: -76.750070.  
Signs have been placed at this area to inform the public of this action, and will be closely
monitored by PA F&BC enforcement officers and others.
We will be stocking trout for our annual Youth Trout Derby in the 1.1 mile section of the creek from
Hallowing Run Road downstream to 580 yards below Houser Road.   We will be leaving the Long Center at
5:30 PM to travel to Fiddlers Run Cooperative Trout Hatchery to pick up the trout.  We will be returning to
the Long Center area around 7:00 PM to stock the trout. Volunteers are needed to haul and help stock the
trout.  Other volunteers are needed to place special regulation signs in this area,  This area is closed to all
fishing by others from this day until after the Youth Derby April 28 and military fishing day on April 29.
Starting April 30 this area is open for fishing for all ages.

Little Shamokin Creek Watershed Association will be hosting our annual YOUTH TROUT DERBY April 28,
2018 at our Long Center, 182 Houser Rd., Sunbury near Augustaville off State Route 890.  Youth ages 3
to 12 from any area are invited to a day of outdoor adventure fishing for trout.  Youth under age 10 must
have adult present.  Registration opens at our pavilion at 7:30 AM. Fishing starts at 9:00AM. ALL YOUTH
MUST REGISTER TO RECEIVE THEIR GIFTS. The first 250 registered youth will receive outdoor/fishing
related gifts. Food and beverage will be provided to participants, additional food will be for sale.  THERE IS
NO FEE FOR PARTICIPATION.  Fish bait will be available for participants.  State daily limit of 5 trout
minimum length of 7 inches will apply.  Wading is restricted.  Upper Augusta Volunteer Fire Dept. will have
medical personnel on site.  This restricted area starts near Hallowing Run Road and extends downstream
for 1.1 miles to a point 580 yards downstream of Houser Road.  The boundaries and the entire length of
this restricted area will be marked with signs.
April 29
ACTIVE DUTY AND VETERAN’S FISHING DAY
VFW Post 1532 and the Little Shamokin Creek Watershed Assoc. will be hosting a day of trout fishing for all
U.S. military active duty members and veterans. This event will be held at the watershed association’s
Long Environmental Stewardship Center 182 Houser Rd. Sunbury PA, near Augustaville.
At the request of all the landowners, 1.1 miles of Little Shamokin Creek will be reserved for the exclusive use
of U.S. military active duty and veterans on this day.  All participants must have a valid PA fishing license.  
State daily limit of 5 trout minimum length of 7 inches will apply. There is no fee for participation.
Food and beverages will be provided by Post 1532.  Registration and coffee will begin at 0800.  
Fishing 0900 until 1600 ??  All active duty and vets are invited to day of trout fishing and comradery.
Active duty personnel must show ID

We will holding a chicken barbeque to raise funds for our Long Environmental Center.  Delivery can be
arranged. More information will be provided in the future.
